Hi Benji,
Please help with a little more info. What are you trying to do exactly? Like are you trying to install a new Operating System, are you trying to format (that will lose your data for you), are you just wanting to get the system going that already has on OS on it? What problems are you seeing that has brought you to this point? Has this computer worked before with this present setup? This should help us to understand where to tell you to go with this issue.

startup my IBM A21m win.98 floppy and CD
Hi.
Thanks for reply to my last thread. Replying about yours questions: The computer was worked two years before present setup with Win.XP-PRO. For last seven months the computer was turn off. When trying to start on, the monitor present a messege that Win.XP-PRO was expired. I decided to startup with win.98, because was the original computer program. and i don't longer needs XP in that computer. During the first time triying install W98, at the final step, the program was unable to configure C: before satartup because something wrong in the drive. |

Type fdisk at the prompt and hit enter.
Say yes to enable large disk suppoort and hit enter. You will need to remove all partitions. Windows xp uses ntfs,so you will need to remove non dos partitions. After you remove the partitions, restart the computer. Boot to the floppy and run fdisk again. Create a primary DOS partition and make it active. Restart the computer and boot to the floppy again. This time type format C: and let it format. When it is done formatting, type E: and hit enter to change to the CD drive. Type setup and hit enter. Setup should start.

When trying to start on, the monitor present a messege that Win.XP-PRO was expired. This indicates that the copy of WinXP-Pro was never activated. It may have been a pirated copy or it may just not have been activated within the thirty day time limit. If it is legitimate, you pop in the install cd, choose to do a repair install and enter the product key to activate it when prompted.http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm Of course if you do not have a valid product key and legitiamate install cd, you will have to wipe the drive and install a legitimate OS. If you had a dual boot , parrallel install where it gives you an option of booting to win98 or win xp pro when you boot up; then just boot to the win98 startup floppy and at the A:_> prompt type fdisk /mbr this will overwrite the master boot record with the win98 boot loader instead of the XP one . Now it will boot to win98 if it is there. If so you can just delete the XP folder . If not, well you will need to repartition and format the drive and install windows from your win98 install cd.(See leroys answer.). "The diagnostic tool were successfully loaded to drive D." "MCCDEX Version 2.25 ...All rights reserved. Drive E: = Driver MSCD001 unit 0 to get help, type HELP and press ENTER." A:\>[/q] This means that the DOS operating system on the floppy has been loaded to a RAM drive ( a virtual drive on RAM) and the cdrom drive letter has been temporarily bumped up from D: to E: until you restart and boot either directly from the CDROM or hard drive. Note that the startup floppy uses the version of DOS which underlies the operating system (Win98) and not the operating system itself which could not fit on the floppy. It gives you a text based operating system which can access the hard drive and configure it for installation or move and copy files to repair specific problems.
