I need help with my partition magic 6.
I was trying to install XP on my computer and I was deleting my partitions and come to find out my BIOS isn't going to work with XP. So my problem is I have a 40GB hard drive and in my C: drive I have 3,694.6MB and in my Unallocated I have 34,467.6MB but it won't let me put all of that in my C: Drive because it says it can't resize beyond the 1024 cylinder boundary. I would like to just have my C drive and no partitions if I can! I have my Partition Magic Disketts I made maybe about last year, one is for bootable and the other is program. I don't know what to do with them but maybe if I use then I can get my old settings back? I would be happy with either just the C drive or my old settings back. Can this be done? |

If you want just your C drive back, does that mean you dont mind formating your drive....(erasing it all)
If so, get your hands on a Windows 98 start-up disk. Load your computer up with that and use '' fdisk '' to.. 1.) Delete all partitions 2.) Create a new primary partition 3.) Format your new partion after its been created. Just make sure to enable large disk support when it asks... i hope that helps, thats what i alwys do when i wana format...its super fast and very eazy. |

oh yes, i forgot to mention, Normally, you would create a startup disk when you installed Windows 98. If you never made a startup disk, if you have lost it, or if yours is old (Startup disks created with previous versions of Windows are not compatible with Windows 98.), now is a great time to make a new one. It’s easy.
To create a boot disk, you will need a blank, 1.2 megabyte (MB) disk. You may also need your Windows 98 CD, so be sure to have it handy. To create a startup disk: (YOU SHOULD BE RUNNING WIN98 TO CREATE THIS DISK) 1)Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then click Add/Remove Programs. 2)Click the Startup Disk tab, and then click the Create Disk button. Label a floppy disk "Windows 98 Startup Disk," insert the disk in your floppy disk drive when prompted, and then click OK. 3)Click OK again, and then follow the instructions on your screen. Store the disk in a safe place. You can also download a startup disk from here http://www.bootdisk.com/ |

The reason you can't seem to access the data on your NT drive is because win98 can't read/write/access data on NTFS partitions. WinXP/2000/NT all use NTFS partitions while win98 uses FAT16/32. It doesn't mean that data is gone on your NT drive, it only means windows cant read it. Quote:
You can also use fdisk to format your NT drive. Simply connect your harddrive to your comp and boot it up with the 98 startupdisk. Get into '' fdisk ''. In fdisk, you'll have the option of swithing between physical drives (between you c drive an the NT drive). I belive it is option # 5 in fdisk. Switch to your NT drive and delete all partitions on that, and your done. Dont forget to format it. Oh yes, and 1 last thing, when deleting partitions on your NT drive, chances are it wont be recognized as a primary partition, so you can delete the partition using the option "Delete non DOS partition" Good luck with that! :D |
