Confused Uninstalling a program

Hello. I am trying to unistall a program but it does not show up in the Add/Remove programs list. I am running Window 98 se and the program i am trying to unistall is V-Com's Sysytem Suite 5 (anti-virus software). The program itself does not have an unistaller and i have downloaded a couple other unistallers that have not picked it up either . Is there another way to remove a program, manually perhaps?? Thank you in advance. JoAnn

Many antivirus suites require you either uninstall it by using the installation CD ( you run it, it detects the current install and asks if you want to repair or remove it) or with special removal tools available at their website.
This is to prevent viruses from tripping the windows uninstall utility on reboot and removing your antivirus.

Hi. I tried to uninstall with the CD, no luck. I tried doing what they suggest on their website by downloading an uninstaller and that did not work either. I installed V-Com again and it still did not show up in Add/Remove programs to uninstall. Can i just delete the program files off the C drive? And if i do that do i need to delete all the files out of the registry? Thanks. Joann

If you delete the folder, you will get errors and it may refuse to boot up. They should have manual uninstall instructions including the necessary registry editing. The first step would be to run the program and disable all of its features, then edit the registry to remove the references and finally delete the program itself.
Have you searched its folder for an uninstall.exe ?
Unfortunately; as you may have found this program has really lousy support
How can I uninstal System Suite

How can I uninstall SystemSuite or Fix-It?

Answer

You can uninstall using the Add or Remove Programs component in the Windows Control Panel. This will initialize the Windows Installer to assist you with uninstalling.

If SystemSuite or Fix-It is not listed on the Add or Remove Programs list you can remove the program using the MicroSoft Installer CleanUp Utility. Please go to http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301 and follow the steps on the web site. Run the utility and see if it detects SystemSuite or Fix-It and if it does then delete the entry. Once you've done this check the install directory located at C:\Program Files\Ontrack\SystemSuite or Fix-It or VCOM\SystemSuite or Fix-It and delete the folder if it still exists.
I would make sure that before you start that you go into the program and disable any startup options ; then run the installer cleanup and finally delete the folder (I would reboot once first to make sure that you do not get any errors and that it is not still running).
