PC turns off during bootup
My old Dell (win 89, 500mhz, p3) all of a sudden is shuting off during boot up.
I can start it in safe mode with no trouble. I have run virus, spyware, and regedit programs on it and even reinstaled the OS over the old one with no difference. Could it be a hardware thing? Or am i missing somthing. Thanks, Eric |

If it will start in safemode then Im betting its a driver / software issue.
Did you install any new hardware or software just before this started happening?

Boot to safe mode. Go to start / run and type msconfig and hit enter Change to selective startup and uncheck the boxes {load system.ini , load startup items} and apply and reboot. If it boots to windows then it is one of the entries here. You can narrow it down by returning those checks one at a time. Once you know which one it is , you go to its tab and uncheck everything there and repeat rebooting and adding a check each time. If unchecking things in msconfig does not solve it; then you go to my computer, right click/ properties/ device manager and locate major components ( video card, sound card , modem, ethernet card, usb root, pci card devices etc) and change them to disabled in this profile (right click / properties) If this solves it, you go in and reenable them one at a time restarting between items until you narrow it down.
