Win 95 Reboots Continuously
I am working on a computer with dual Pentium II MMX processors, 128MB RAM, SCSI HDD, Ethernet card, FDD and Win95.
When I turn on the computer, it seems to boot-up, the Win95 screen comes on for about 5 seconds then it goes back to running boot scripts line by line for a while. Then it stalls at an error message: "An error occurred during the file system check You will now be given a chance to login to the System in single user mode to fix the problem Running 'e2fsck -v -y <partition>' might help once you enter the single user shell the system will reboot type control -d to proceed with normal startup (or give root password for system maintenance)" The computer waits for about 30 seconds and then I don't have the password and control -d does nothing "Unmounting file systems...rebooting..." I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions? -Vince Last edited by 92VINCE; 02-02-2006 at 11:33 PM. |

My gut instinct is to tell you that with dual processors you need WinNT, Win2000 or WinXP pro.
Pretty sure that dual processor support was not part of win95. http://support.intel.com/support/pro.../CS-007880.htm Quote:

Used a boot floppy
I used a Win95 boot floppy to access the computer's c: drive.
There is no Windows folder on the C: drive. The c: drive looks almost identical to the Win95 boot floppy. Any comment on that? Thank you. |

Win95 is, for all intents and purposes, dos with a pretty face. It uses all the same directory structures, file locations, start up files, etc. Since you have no C:\windows, windows has not been installed. The c:\ (or root directory) looks like the floppy because they are the same. What you're looking at are the required startup files. Those files always have to be loaded first, they always have to be located in the root directory. Your c:\ drive was made bootable by "copying" the contents of the floppy to the hard drive by using the dos command "sys a: c:"
Basically, right now your hard drive is the same thing as a very large floppy disk ready to install windows 95 on. If you put it in a compatable machine, it will boot the computer and do exactly the same thing as booting from the floppy. Hope this helps. |
