I've changed the cursors on my system with no problem except the Select Link cursor stays the same Windows pointing finger. This happens whether I install a cursor set, or one cursor at a time. I thought it might be an issue with this computer, but I tried on another and the same thing happens. Anyone ever run into this before?

What are you using to change your cursor? If your using something like Comet Cursor or alike, those types of programs most often bring spyware into your system. It is possible it is in the program itself that is causing the issue. I suggest you use these program to scan your system for adware/spyware.
Download / Install / Update / and Run: Adaware SE check for any updates before running it. Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Hey, Geekgirl. I didn't use any program to change cursors, just placed cursor files ( .cur and .ani ) in Windows\Cursors and changed them in Control Panel\Mouse\Pointer. I run Adaware and Spybot daily and everything is clean. I had forgotten about the VX2 Cleaner plugin for Adaware, installed it and no problems there either. This is a fairly recent installation of 98SE with everything updated and no other issues besides this one stubborn cursor.

I've tried more than one file from different websites and a couple I made myself. I thought I could find the default cursor for Select Link and rename it so that Windows would have to use the cursor I applied, but I couldn't find it anywhere, even when I viewed hidden files and searched for all .cur and .ani files. This isn't a major problem at all, but it just bugs me that something that should work doesn't.
