I tried to add a second hard drive to a PII Gateway running Me. Somewhere in the processI lost my CD. I think I may have done somethign to the BIOS but I restored an earlier version. BTW, the second HD was never recognized. Any suggestions?

Hard drive jumpers. On the back of the new/second hard drive there will be a group of six pins in a 2 x 3 configuration located between the cable connectors. Two of the pins will be covered by a small plastic block. The six pins are labeled in pairs (MA,SL,CS). Now check the CD and the same group of pins will appear on the CD. Move the plastic block on to the pins labeled MA and on the other device set the block on SL. In theory it doesn't matter which is which, but in practice I would set the CD to SL and the hard drive to MA.
The problem you describe is due to both devices having the same setting and hence the conflict. As for BIOS set all drives to AUTO. I do know this is a cop out but its the easiest setting to work with. |
