restore disk=ME

My son somehow deleted something in the control panel that makes the computer get past the windows me wallpaper. it wont boot up and i dont know how to boot from the restore disk. it asks me to restore completly of boot from mos/dos. when i do that, i get A:\ I cant do a full recovery as I have way much on the drive to lose. aany Idea's?
