Solving Win 95 Boot Problem
1. OS Win 95 with 64 MB SDRAM (Intel Pentium 200 MHz) 2. Was working perfectly before installing a Prolink PCI Ethernet (PCI Fast Ethernet 10/100 Mbps) card. Problems 1. PC Boots and the ‘Starting Windows 95’ Logo is displayed, but even after 1 hour the desktop never appears, it is still at this Logo. 2. However I can go to the Safe Mode even though it takes a long time to load into this mode. 3. When I ran Microsoft Scan Disk it didn’t report any error. 4. However Win 95 doesn’t boot in to the Normal Mode as it did previously. 5. There are many important data inside this disk and it is not partitioned, thus I don’t want to format the disk and lose the data. 6. Could it be the network card which is giving the problem? 7. Other than this, before this problem occurred, I have been restarting Windows numerous times, just to find out if the Network driver is installed. Could this have caused the trouble? 8. Please tell me, how I can get Win 95 to boot into Normal Mode as it did previously. I do not want to lose my precious data. 9. Thank You Very Much For your Help!!! |

Yes the network card can cause the problem.
You need to boot to safe mode,go to Start/settings/control panel, double click system and click on the device manager tab. If the card is listed, remove it. Then shut down the computer and remove the card. After removing the card, try starting the computer and see if it resolves the problem. Network cards can be tricky in windows 95. Before trying to reinstall it,check the instructions for troubleshooting to see if there is a way to make sure all the software is removed. It may be something as simple as an IRQ conflict,in which case you can try reinstalling it in a different PCI slot. |
