VMM32.VXD is a sort of combined device driver manager. It contains many Virtual Device Drivers (VxD ) just as a zip file can contain many individual files within it.
So ntkern.vxd is one of the files which should be contained within it. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;294292 Makes me suspect a USB mouse is conflicting with your sound card for an IRQ. Do you have a umax or genius scanner http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=1...m/?kbid=191874 This site tells you how to repair it using the file in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs if you have that folder http://www.easydesksoftware.com/news/news10.htm CT2MGM.SF2 Is a sound font file (use google for more info) I believe the demo32 reference is the windows tour from when you install windows caused by your using the wrong CD. It probably has an entry in start/ programs/ startup, or in msconfig which can be disabled and later removed. So let us know. Does this system have the folder C:\Windows\Options\Cabs ?

C:\Windows\Options\Cabs is a compressed copy of the windows install cd files.
You can go to start / run and type sfc hit enter this will run system file checker when it finds a missing or altered file, tell it to restore from C:\Windows\Options\cabs Same with if you ever get prompted for your windows install cd, just point it there for the file it needs. I would definitely try connecting a PS2 mouse, going to device manager in safe mode and removing the USB mouse if it is listed and uninstalling any software which came with it. Then try uninstall and reinstall your sound card and once it is working, you can try installing the USB mouse. The mouse is likely to be more flexible than the sound card in terms of what resources it can be assigned and still function. So if it is connected first and gets the first allotable resources , then they are not available for the sound card. But if you connect the sound card first, and let it get the resources it wants to work, then connect the mouse, it will work with whatever it is given.

Do things work now or not?
If not run system file checker to confirm that you have your correct windows files installed. If any damaged files show up that it says cannot be found in options/ cabs just write them down and post here and click ignore to proceed. They will be detected again when you try later. Then go to control panel/ add/ remove programs and uninstall any related to your sound card. Then go to device manager (Control panel/ system / device manager . or right click my computer/ properties/ device manager) and remove the sound card and anything listed as unknown and the mouse. Reboot and let it all get redetected and loaded correctly. Install the software for the sound card when windows is done loading.

Ah, I thought this was resolved.
Have you gone into the sounds control applet in control panel and made sure that this sound card is selected ? Have you gone into volume control and made sure that things are not muted ? The device coming back after you delete it means it really is there.

Do you have amplified speakers or passive speakers?
Which is this card designed for?
