Question ME Tweaks-How to?

Question on the following taken from the "Tweaks":

If a Windows ME system has more than 512MB of RAM, then to work around a design bug in the vcache management, per MS_253912, you must add the following to the [vcache] section of C:\Windows\SYSTEM.INI file:

[vcache]
MaxFileCache=524288

Have not used the DOS mode in a very long time. Not sure how to get there or what commands to use to modify the SYSTEM.INI file. Please advise with details since I now have 544MB installed (since Tuesday this week).
Thanks,
Ed

My System

No need to delve into the dark waters of DOS
Go to Start > Run and type msconfig
Click the System.ini tab, scroll down to [vcache] and change the value with the Edit button. Then reboot and turn off the Selective Startup warning if you get one.

Or you can simply edit System.ini in notepad, save and reboot.

Grin System.ini file OK now

Actually, the MaxFileCache=524288 statement was already in the system.ini file. Maybe Gateway configured the system this way. But none-the-less, I learned a lot from this excerise. I'll just continue working the tweaks list. Thanks to Tapeuup and Koala for the help.

Most system tweaks are safe and reversible, but for peace of mind you might want to create a System Restore point in case anything goes wrong.
