Cannot enter IP Address in Win98

I would like to change my IP from DHCP to static IP, but I cannot enter any number in the IP Address.

Refer the screen captured below, it looks like being disable (but not in gray colour) and the white blank portion below the dot is never appear in a normal Win98 system.

Kindly provide a solution, thank you.

Perhaps it would help if you were to explain exactly what you are trying to do and why.
Is this computer part of a home network and you are trying to specify the IP address (format 198.162.abc.xyz) to be used within the network? If so the problem is probably that you have not chosen the correct type of client (client for microsoft networks is easiest if you are using tcp/ip ) .
Are you attempting to connect to a router?
Is this machine a server on a network?

Or do you think you can change the IP you have on the internet this way? You cannot, your IP is assigned by your ISP. If they choose to have it dynamic (changes every time you login) that is their choice. They may offer static IPs for a slight premium.

It is a macihne on my office network, with MS TCP/IP protocol installed.
I have a DHCP server in the network but I would like to have some static IP address on selected machines for some reasons.

I have finished the configuration for some of the machines, left only 2 machines which are having this problem.

The following screen captured shows the NORMAL IP configuration box:

Take note on the red colour line locations, it's different with the problematic screen.

New in town and absolutely no expert but I have seen similar patterns....I would suggest you run 98se and try reinstalling the OS. Also make sure you are not running any Win 3.1 or 95 software. Also I take it you have run Norton Utilities and Norton Antivirus to make sure the OS is clean. Were these computers operating on your network before?

My suggestion is not so drastic.
I suggest you have your win98 cd handy or verify that you have the folder C:\Windows\Options\Cabs on your computer.
Go to control panel/ network applet
Begin at the bottom of the list and remove all the entries.
When done, you can add adapter (the one you are using, the ethernet ) add client (client for microsoft networks) , select it and add protocol TCP/IP bound to it and the adapter
Repeat as needed.

Reinstall probably would be the last choice.
