My sites won't load; others OK

I'm using Win 98SE and Firefox, with IE6 available. (Both act the same.) I'm using dial-up (copper.net).

I have about a dozen websites (.com, .us, and .org), all hosted on the same server. (Not my own server.)

Last weekend, I was unable to view my sites (ONLY my sites; all others were available as usual) for several hours. Then whatever was broken fixed itself and everything was back to normal. The hosting support said the server was serving pages normally during this time.

Yesterday, everything was normal. This morning, my sites were again unavailable while any other site I tried to view was available. The server is working, as friends are able to view my sites normally. My ISP support person dialed up on the same number I used and confirmed that everything was OK with their system.

That leaves the problem right here ---right here on my very own desk!

Question:
What's the problem, and how do I fix it?

I'm not an expert, but it seems very strange that my sites and only my sites are unavailable!

Help will be greatly appreciated!

here are the partial firewall traffic log excerpts as each site was called and loaded by the browser........they loaded immediately with no problems.

Once again, the problem has fixed itself with plenty of encouragement but NO help from me.

I don't use a firewall. I'd I've made no changes to either of the browsers before it "broke" or before it "fixed."

It certainly is a mystery to me. Since it happened 2x in the last 4 days, fixed itself, and neither the cause nor the fix are known or understood, I suspect it will happen again and I'll give you and the other fine folks here another opportunity to be helpful!

How uptodate is you OS?
You may want to look at running through this thread follow the direction There may be a modified Host file involved here.

Are you getting domain not found errors, or just browser time-outs?

If you can see other sites just fine, but not your, and friends can see yours, the problem lies between your ISP and your host. The fact that the host dialed in to your isp account and connected really doesn't say a lot (the problem is intermittent).

Next time it happens, open a DOS windows (command prompt) and type in the following, where hostname is your domain name. (then press enter)

tracert {hostname} > c:\{hosatname}.txt

Pot the contents of {hostname}.txt here.

Now I'm not certain, but I believe them to be "not found." The words were something like, "...not available..." as I recall, and although it took some seconds for them to appear, I don't recall that the time was as long as it takes for a browser to time out.

One of the friends was using the same ISP, and I believe the same phone number (but not necessarily).

The problem is long-term (like many hours), not short term, intermittent. When the ISP dialed in, the problem had existed for several hours immediately prior to his dialing in and existed for several hours after he dialed in. Also, I tried within a minute or two of his trying. While what you say could be true, these facts lead me to believe that is not the case.

Next time it happens, I'll post the tracer as you suggested.

I've not read oldmn's suggested thread yet. And I'm not certain how up to date my Win 98SE is; old, I suspect.
