Old School District Computer
I just bought a computer off ebay that is from a school district. The computer works fine but I am having one major problem. Any changes I make are undone each time I restart the computer. The computer has win 98, PIII 550mhz, 192 ram....
First, I changed the wallpaper, and the way the icons and the start menu is organized. I restarted and everything went back to how it was. After that, I removed some programs, deleted some files, and changed some other things. I restarted and everything went back to how it was. I'm trying to find out what I can do to fix this. Is there something in windows itself or is there another program installed that is doing it? It's getting a little frustrating trying to figure out how to go around this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sean |

It appears that you do not have admistrator rights.
Later Versions of widows will tell you if have the rights. I do not recall if 98 warnes you. If this is it and you do not have administrator rights and they did not supply you with a password. Check through the documents you got with it. It may come down to a clean install of the OS. But there is probably some one around here that remembers 98 better than I do.

I work in a school system and we have differant ways of locking down the 98 machines so the students can not mess up the computers. I agree with Chevy. Completly wipe the machine then reinstall Windows 98. If you do not own a copy, you can buy one cheap on Ebay or other places on the net.
