HP Deskjet 940c prints unwanted black vertical line over subject

[font=Arial][size=4][color=Black] My printouts are showing a thin black vertical line. The line is always vertical, but may vary in location. I returned to factory settings, to no avail. I suspect driver problems. However when I try to reinstall the printer from the factory CD, it does not install a driver. Any suggestions ?

Try another black cartridge.
