Windows 98 Not Booting
I just burned Windows 98 to disc and when I put it in the CD-ROM it doesn't load. It doesn't get recognized. Even when I try to boot from it upon restart
it just sits at a black screen for like 8 seconds then loads XP back. Any possible explanation for this? (Hopefully a resolution. )(p.s. Is it possible to "force" XP to allow installation of Windows 98?) Last edited by Aphextc; 09-01-2005 at 10:26 PM. |

Some old CDrom drives will not recognize a burned CD, try a different CD drive.
If you already have WinXP on the HDD and it uses NTFS then Win98 will not work, (w98 doesn't recognize NTFS). When installing multiple OS install the oldest first. Some installs won't work when a newer version is detected. The boot order (bios setting) has to have CDrom before HDD for it to boot from CD. Usually there's a message about pressing a key to boot from CD, and that will only come up if it has a bootable CD in the drive.
