Run-time error '429':
Hi
My PC has been playing up recently - locking up, rebooting without warning - generally being naughty! I think it all started with Norton Internet Security, but more of that later. The first problem to resolve is that when starting the PC, I get an error message after entering my windows password. The message is- realtime Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object Grateful for any suggestions. Keith |

Download VBRun60sp4.exe put it on a floppy then boot to safe mode and install it.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q235420/ Reboot pc and should start windows normally. I suggest you go to TrendMicro (see link below) and run a full scan on your pc. Then post again if the locking up, rebooting issue still occurs.

No success
Stu
I downloaded and installed VBRun60sp4.exe as suggested, but unfortunately the error message still appears on normal boot. I also tried to run the Trend full scan. The first time the PC rebooted whilst downloading Housecall, and the second time after it had successfully downloaded Housecall whilst running the scan. Whilst having to reboot a number of times due to freezing or rebooting, I received a BSOD - A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C1C68842 in VXD VDHCP(03) + 00000052. The current application will be terminated. Looks like this might be more complicated than first appeared? Keith |

In the blue header of the message box it says 'Realtime', and then in the main message area 'Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object' that's the complete message. Thanks for assistance. Keith |

Hmmm....well, certainly this is related to a program in your Startup routines, but that's not enough info to narrow it down.
Go to Start/Run, type msconfig and click OK. On the Startup tab, uncheck any box you do not recognize, click Apply and then reboot. Feel free to ask about ertain entries with details, if not sure.

1. Did you install, (or uninstall) a program just before this started happening? 2. Do you have yahoo, google, or other search programs in the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs? 3. Are you running a server?

Stu
To answer your questions- 1 I have recently uninstalled Zone Alarm and AntiVir and installed the trial version of Trend Pc-cillin Internet Security 2005. 2 The Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, the MSN Toolbar and Wanadoo Search Toolbar appear - but they have all been there for some time. 3 No. Hope this helps. CTSNKY I have extracted the following from msconfig- msnmsgr "C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSN MESSENGER\MSNMSGR.EXE" /background ScanRegistry C:\WINDOWS\scanregw.exe /autorun TaskMonitor C:\WINDOWS\taskmon.exe SystemTray SysTray.exe LoadPowerProfile Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme SiS KHooker C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\khooker.exe CriticalUpdate C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe -startup LoadQM loadqm.exe mdac_runonce C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\runonce.exe QuickTime Task "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime PCDRealtime C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe Gene USB Monitor C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USBMonit.exe EPSON Stylus Photo RX420 Series C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\E_S5IOC1.EXE /P31 "EPSON Stylus Photo RX420 Series" /05 "LPT1:" /M "Stylus Photo RX420" StillImageMonitor C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STIMON.EXE Microsoft Works Update Detection C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe Mouse Suite 98 Daemon PELMICED.EXE SpeedTouch USB Diagnostics "C:\Program Files\Thomson\SpeedTouch USB\Dragdiag.exe" /icon Symantec Core LC C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe start pccguide.exe "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2005\pccguide.exe" NPROTECT C:\Program Files\Norton Utilities\NPROTECT.EXE LoadPowerProfile Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme SchedulingAgent mstask.exe KB891711 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.exe TmPfw PcCtlCom C:\PROGRAM FILES\TREND MICRO\INTERNET SECURITY 2005\PCCTLCOM.EXE NPROTECT C:\Program Files\Norton Utilities\nprotect.exe Microsoft Office StartUp C:\progra~1\micros~1\office\osa9.exe Shortcut to ADSL Diagnostic Tools C:\windows\system\mapiicon.exe run= hpfsched I unchecked PCDRealtime and TmPfw and the error '429' no longer appears at boot. So that's progress. The rest I left checked. I note that some entries appear twice, eg LoadPowerProfile and NPROTECT. Is that okay? Whilst preparing the above list, the PC froze or rebooted a number of times. When running a scan disk in safe mode some cross-linked files were found:- C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00000392.TXT and C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\rb004.cab and C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00000393.TXT and C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00000388.TXT I am preparing this reply on my laptop, as the desktop has become extremely unstable, and has just rebooted from the Desktop without me touching it! I'm beginning to suspect an intermittent hardware fault, perhaps the hard drive. What do you think? Keith |

I suggest you go to the Security Center HJT forum and read the stickies then post a HJT log for CTSNKY (or another staff) to look at first, as I think there is a lot of junk you can unload. After they have declared your system clean and if there are still freeze up problems you can start a new thread indicating the system is cleaned and details of the symptoms, include details of your pc-make and model ID's (ie: mobo, cpu, psu, drives, video card, ram, OS) you can use Everest (link below) to get most of the info. You will probably have to open the case to get the info for the PSU, while open make sure all conectors and boards are well seated, and clean out any dust. Alternatively...PC Doctor-I get a runtime error message on startup? Quote:

On the Security Centre HJT forum, it advises to download and run Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition. I am running Trend PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 as my virus checker and firewall, and I seem to recall reading somewhere that Ad-Aware and TPCIS can conflict. Am I right?

Download Ad-aware and Spybot but before installing them do a PC-cillin update first. Then do the HJT tests.
Next time you do a PC-cillin update if it doesn't update then uninstall Ad-aware and Spybot. http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...lutionId=24572
