Well, you can't put W98 on a NTFS partition so you will have to change that to FAT32.
You will need to boot from the floppy and type FDISK answer Y for full disk, then at menu select 3. delete and 3(or4) Delete NON DOS partition. Then 1 to make primary and let it use whole disk, esc to finish then reboot.
When reboots select 1.Start with CD suport, when finally gets to A:\> type FORMAT C:
to format then put W98 CD in and type E:\SETUP (it shoud show what letter used when it finished loading - just above A:\>)

Looks like fdisk isn't on the floppy.
So maybe we should make another one.
Download this file to your desktop Make Win98 boot floopy
put the win98 start floppy in the drive and click the file you downloaded so it will make a new start floppy.
Then try using it.

Right click on the above link and select Save target
---------------------------------------------------------
What brand is the laptop?

There seems to be a problem with your laptop shutting down unexpectedly.
Is there a problem with the power adapter? How long has this been a problem?

Well done!
If it stops again, use the Win98 CD to boot next time because it will be able to install on the new partition.

------------------------------
Loose adapter plugs are a common problem for older laptops. Sometimes the slightest movement will cause the laptop to shutdown.
