Windows 98 hangs during boot

My PC had troubles shutting down the other night, Win98 froze during the "shutting down" screen. So I just turned the computer off and went to bed. The next day, win98 wouldn't boot up in normal mode. I can get in under "safe mode", but I cannot figure out whats causing this system to hang. I tried to run a thorough scandisk but it just ends up freezing the computer. Can anyone help me please?

What might have caused your computer to behave abnormally the night before you had to boot in safe mode? Did you install anything?

Also, do any error messages come up when you try to boot up normally?

One word: Kazaa

This is what always causes havoc in my computer, but I enjoy all the music to much to get rid of it. Also, when the computer started up some of the settings in BIOS were changed. For example my RAID device was re-activated. I checked over all the settings and it looks ok.

You may have picked up a virus or spyware, how current is your virus protection?

Yea it could be a virus, i still need to do a scan. I have Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition, not too sure how current it is. A friend of mine installed it.
