I recently had to download a newer version of Macromedia Shockwave Player. When I was downloading it, I got knocked offline and had to start downloading all over again. As it downloaded the first time, it placed an installer icon on my desktop. When I downloaded it completely the second time, it placed the same installer icon on my desktop again. So I had two of them. I figured when I ran it, they both would go away. Instead, just the one that completely downloaded went away and the first one remained. Everything is working fine, but I cannot get rid of the first installer. When I try to delete it, it says the file may be in use. When I try to move it, I get the same thing. It is not in my task manager as a running program.
I double-click it and try to run it, it says it's an invalid program. If it's an invalid program, how can it be in use? How can I get rid of this thing?

Download the Pocket Killbox and run it. Select the file you need deleting, then make sure the option "End Explorer Shell While Killing File" is ticked, and you have "Standard File Kill" selected. Now click the delete button (the white cross in the red circle) And hopefully you should be rid of the file.
NOTE: When the Pocket Killbox deletes a file, it creastes a backup of the file in a new directory on your C drive called "!Submit" - it is perfectly safe to remove both the backed up file and the directory.

Could this program also be used with DLL files or would that totally screw up my operating system? I have at least two corrupt DLL files, setupx.dll and advapi32.dll (this problem is explained in detail in another thread; sorry but this program looks like it has promise with that problem too).

Hmm... possibly, I'll put instructions on that thread to avoid confusion.
