Mistake Mouse locking, jumping

:angry2: I am ticked at myself for buying this compaq, I have more trouble with it than a '72 bug.... It is great on paper, but there are so many incompatibilities that came along for the ride. Can anyone help with this particular problem???

Mouse keeps jumping and locking for no apparent reason or warning... I purchased an A4 Tech mouse and have done the usual things (downloaded updated driver, then deleted updated driver due to continued problems)(tried to go back to default windows mouse driver... I think it is using the default mouse driver, but I am not sure).

Any help you kind people can give that does not involve an aluminum baseball bat would be greatly appreciated.

And remember, you can laugh... just don't point!

hello I buy junk, welcome to the forums !!
have you tried running defrag and scandisk ?
Is your mouse or mousepad dirty ?
Does it freeze when you only use some apps ?
Do you have another PC where you can test this mouse or do you have another mouse you can test on your PC ?
Also you can check what programs run on startup and let us know....

P.S. would a wooden baseball bat work instead of aluminum one ? lol, j/k :D

:angry2: Wood is too good to waste on this monster...

Have run scandisk, defrag, adaware, my virus program (having made sure it is up to date).

Have cleaned my mouse.

I can see no particular thing that sets off this behavior, no application or action on my part.

No other pc, but have already changed around the mouse.

Startup stuff:
ScanRegistry
System Tray
MCAgentExe
MCUpdateExe
VirusScanOnline
TaskMonitor
EM_EXEC
LoadPowerProfile
CPQEASYACC
EACLEAN
EsoniqMixer
LoadPowerProfile (twice, per compaq)
TrueVector (part of firewall)
MiniLog (part of firewall)
ZoneAlarm (firewall)

Tankya!

I know this may sound dumb, but did you ever think to connect a serial mouse. I've had trouble with PS2 and wireless mice and am now using a serial mouse and loving it.

:D Not dumb! Not dumb! Anything is worth pursuing, except voodoo-like activities and incantations, and even then....

Now for something which is dumb... what is a serial mouse? I mean how would I distinguish it from any other mouse?

Who makes a serial mouse, and can you provide any specifics like model?

Let me know, and you may have saved the life of one baseball bat!

Thumbs Up

Speedo has posted a wonderful picture of a serial mouse. The secret is in the plug. They don't make them any more, they worked too well, you will probably be able to pick up a used one no trouble...... dave

Ahhh grasshopper you jump to quick.............:D

A lot of PS/2 mouse manufacturers still include a serial adapter.

Now snatch the pebbles from my hand!

Arghh to slow grasshopper...................................

Meese

:toilet: You guys have been the best, and I wish I could say I have it all fixed....

There isn't a place for PS/2 to be hooked into on my JunkPaq.

This I learn having spent my Saturday looking for, finding, and buying a PS/2 adapter.

Does anyone else out there own a Compaq Presario?

PS- The picture of the mouse... that was above and beyond, Speedo. If there is anything I can do in return...

:D
