display help..

ok, i had this posted on the video cards forum, BUT, i am really thinking its a windows problem..here it is..

need Display help..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi!
well, i have a compaq presario 5000, all the sudden one day, i have these light gray shaded lines accross the screen wherever there are words or sentences or pictures or whatever, its almost like when your printer drags a little and leaves that light shaded line behind all the words and stuff that its printing..its light enough that i can still see everything ok, but i know its not supposed to be doing this..like right now why im typing this out, the screen is white like it should be underneath this sentence, but as soon as i get to the end of this line and the cursor drops down a line, the gray shaded stuff starts, so when im sone, it almost looks like notebook paper with all the lines forming behind my sentences..ok, ive tried pulling the video card out and reseating it, along with the memory stick, ive tried installing the recovery disc and starting all over reloading windows ME, and also removed and reinstalled an updated video driver, nothing changes it. The video card is a nvidia vanta LT, dont know if something could be wrong with it or not, i wouldnt think so though, I also tried my other monitor, any ideas guys?
thanks!

another reason i think its still a windows problem even though i reloaded it is because whn i turn the machine on, the wallpaper will appear perfect, then when the windows icons load onto the screen (IE, recycle bin, etc..) the lines will appear accross the icons and over the wallpaper..

Re:Gray Shadows?

I had the exact problem with gray shadows.
Example: A typed line would produce a shadow on both sides of it and any icons or photos would produce darker lines. The problem was my display adapter, some people refer to it as a graphics or video card. Mine was AGP Nvidia Vanta LT. I removed and reinstalled the card and drivers with no results. I've read of other simular complaints on microsofts community news groups and on Compaq's when they had one. I bought a used one on eBay for $15.00 which cured the problem. After installing the new one and downloading an updated driver at Nvidia's site I noticed how all the graphics had deteriorated over time, it made a big difference.
I have a Compaq 5000 with ME.
good luck
