mapping drives
I did something that listed every directory in my hard drive in TXT format (ended up about 4 MB), but I forgot how! What's the command or program that I use to do it?
this is a very tiny portion of the TXT file: Volume in drive C is IBM40GB Volume Serial Number is 3E46-16FC Directory of C:\ COMMAND COM 93,890 04-23-99 10:22p COMMAND.COM WINDOWS <DIR> 11-24-01 4:17p WINDOWS NETLOG TXT 2,889 11-24-24 4:30p NETLOG.TXT AUTOEXEC BAT 42 11-24-01 7:10p AUTOEXEC.BAT CONFIG SYS 30 10-12-02 9:52p CONFIG.SYS MYDOCU~1 <DIR> 11-24-24 4:32p My Documents PROGRA~1 <DIR> 11-24-01 4:17p Program Files ATI <DIR> 11-24-24 4:36p ATI PCCHECK LOG 312 01-14-02 8:42p PCcheck.LOG AUTOEXEC NAV 0 11-24-24 4:31p autoexec.nav NCDTREE <DIR> 11-24-24 5:40p NCDTREE JAYMI <DIR> 11-24-01 8:19p Jaymi 8GB <DIR> 11-24-01 7:50p 8GB SAVE <DIR> 01-05-02 1:22p SAVE BDE <DIR> 11-25-01 7:58a BDE 40GB <DIR> 11-25-01 8:49a 40GB CHEATERS LOG 1,332 06-13-02 4:52p cheaters.log SCANDISK LOG 15,016 10-12-02 8:04p SCANDISK.LOG SHARE <DIR> 12-28-01 3:27p SHARE YAMAHA <DIR> 02-09-02 3:58p YAMAHA ~DFA044 TMP 190,464 02-21-02 3:13p ~DFA044.TMP ~DF6A3A TMP 131,072 02-21-02 4:11p ~DF6A3A.TMP FF8INPUT CFG 1,492 04-16-02 11:10a ff8input.cfg ~0HW LNK 310 08-01-02 11:32p ~0HW.lnk BDELOG TXT 559 05-31-02 4:04p BDELog.txt INSTALL LOG 782 10-05-02 2:33p INSTALL.LOG MAP TXT 0 10-16-02 7:17p map.txt 15 file(s) 438,190 bytes |

I just figured out how to do this (one method, anyway), but it might be more trouble for you than it's worth:
Get into a DOS window (hopefully you are using some version of Windows, otherwise this explanation is useless). Give the command Dir /p and click the button on the top menu with a dotted line. From there, you will be able to copy the text and paste it into notepad. Continue until listing ends. Sorry it's so tedious but I thought I'd offer my help anyway Also, I read online that there was the TREE command, but it yielded only a "bad command or file name" when I tried it on my computer. If you want the output of the DIR command in a file, all you have to do is put a >file_name at the end of the line. This redirects the output from the screen into the named file. Nothing could be easier. :)

I just looked at PC World and they have a similar command.
it goes something like this: dir %1 /-p /o:gn > "%temp%\dir.txt" notepad /p "%temp%\dir.txt" it was originally meant to be run as a batch file inside the "sendto" folder. I think you will get the results you want to replacing "%1" with the root of whatever drive you wish to map and completely omit the second command, and instead open the file "dir.txt" manually.
