Hi All
I've got a Windows 98 Machine...nothing special. The problem is with the (3.5)Floppy. When I try to look at the contents of a floppy disk, I can see the folders and files but the lables look like jibberish. How can I fix this? Thanks For You Help! DEW |

Hello and Welcome to TSF
Do all floppies give you this image? If you place the floppy in another computer is it still jibberish ? Could you please give us a screen shot? * Pressing Alt-PrintScreen places an image of the frontmost window on the clipboard. * Open MS-Paint. (From Start/Run, issue the command "mspaint".) Create a new empty image, and use Edit/Paste to bring in the screenshot you just took. (If the screenshot is smaller than the default Paint canvas, you'll end up with white areas. Start over: create a new empty image, change its dimensions to 1x1, and Paste again. The canvas will grow for the Paste, but it doesn't shrink.) * Use MS-Paint to Save As, using PNG as the file format (it is superior to all the rest). * Don't forget the post-processing.

Thanks for the reply Geekgirl,
I can post a screen shot soon. I've tried several different floppies with data on them. They look normal on other PCs that I have. Very strange.......I wonder if there is a setting somewhere that changes the way the floppy is viewed..... Thanks again, DEW |

Either that or you've got a bad ribbon cable going to the floppy. See if you've got another one lying around somewhere (or failing that, borrow one from a friend's computer temporarily) and give it a go with that.
