copying to a startup disk
Hello,
I'm trying to clean up this PC with killdisk. I'm having problems with understanding the instructions. I've created a startup disk as instructed and then I have to copy the .exe to the disk, the problem is that there isn't enough room to copy the killdisk.exe (608kb) to the startup (422 free). I'm obviously not that savy here, Has anyone got any experience with using this product on a ME? Any advice for a novice would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I think there is another way / go to bootdisk.com and download the second item on the page / dos driverless bios diskette
insert a fresh floppy disk in your A drive then click on the downloaded DRDflash program / after that finishes copy your program to it give that a try / the drdflash will give you the dos to get going with your prog / at the A: prompt you will have to type the name of the .exe to launch the prog let us know if that works / if not we will try another solution regards joe

This piece of junk won't support '/s', it says I must create startup disk, that's
where the problem started, the startup disk doesn' have room to copy the '.exe' to it, could I remove some of the files from the startup disk to make room? Or did I not properly download the drdflash, the disk has the WinImage self extractor file on it. I must be doing something wrong because every instruction on this subject says it's simple, create startup disk and copy the .exe to it. |

The answer to your question is yes you can delete some of the files on the "start-up" disk / I suggest you delete Fdisk and format if format is on their see if that gives you enough room regards joe

Alternatively, you could just put the file on another disk. Boot using the boot disk, then take it out and put the other one in and run the file. You will need to put the boot disk back in after the other prog is finished, as it needs to access command.com again, but it doesn't need to be in all the time.

Thanks,
What I first tried was to delete some things off the startup and made room for the .exe. I then tried boot with the disk. What I came up with was options : Help Start up with cd support Start up without cd support low level start (something like that) I tried 'without cd support' and got the A prompt which is where I typed killdisk.exe the response I got was that it wasn't found yet I had copied it to the disk. I'll try the latest option suggested, thanks for responding, I didn't think I could make this simple task so complicated. |

I've tried booting with the startup,
'Diagnostic tools successfully loaded to drive D' A:\> I've then loaded the disk with the killdisk.exe, and I get 'stub exec failed: no such file or directory I've even redownloaded the software and loaded the .exe to a disk again and get the same error. Should I be using a CD? Does it make any sense to copy the startup disk and the killdisk.exe to a cd and boot fro the CD? I'm ready to take a loss on the killdisk pro. and just forget about the whole thing. |

Have you tried using the One Step method for making the boot disk? It should be found here. This I think puts the regular version onto the disk, but if you just delete the killdisk.exe file and put your copy of the kiildisk pro on it, it should work fine.
If it doesn't, try using the tool again and see if the regular version will start. One of the two should definately work.

Problem resolved
Problem resolved,
'stub exe failed: \dos4gw.exe - no such file or directory' ..What was missing from the '2 disk' method , was the 'dos4gw.exe'. I used 1 disk that had the 'startup', and on the second disk, the killdisk.exe. When I looked at the sofware download, I noticed a file called 'DOS4GW' , finally the light dawned, I needed to add that to the 2nd disk. I did, it worked. Thanks to all that responded, you all led me to the solution. ...now to get rid of this WinME forever! |
