explorer will not work
I went to the security section in this forum and got rid of all the spy ware and trojons. Now that my system is clean, windows explorer will not execute. I also get an explorers error message on bootup. I also can't recieve or send email from outlook. I re-installed win 98se, but that didn't help. Is there somthing that I can check or do before reformating my hard drive and starting over?
thanks NCOW |

I just took a look at your thread with the malware issues.
You were dealing with Bube which infects your explorer.exe. I read you have been tinkering with another explorer.exe, but, you really need the one from your original 98-cd/floppy, not just another explorer.exe. So, I don't know which explorer.exe is still present on your system? The infected one, or just a "random" explorer.exe you took from another computer? Also look if there is an explorer.new present on your C:\Windows and delete it. |

Download IEradicator
IEradicator is tiny, script that uses the Windows setup engine to surgically remove Internet Explorer versions 3 through 6.0 from Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium and Windows 2000(sr1). Right after you use IEradicator, reboot with your windows disc in the cdrom and do a repair installation.

I looked and found no explorer.new. I went to symantic website to look up Bube and deleted the recomended threads from the registry. Still doesn't run. When I put the other copy of Explorer copied from the other computer I renamed the original. After the copy didn't work I renamed the original back to its original file name. Girlgeek Im am trying to correct a problem with windows explorer not window internet explorer. thanks NCOW |

For that, you'll need you original cd and boot from dos.
First rename your explorer.exe to explorer.old (as i read here, you already renamed your explorer.exe) Assuming D is your cdromdrive, you'll need to perform next in DOS: EXTRACT /A D:\WIN98\WIN98_22.CAB explorer.exe /L C:\windows |

Did as suggested
I did as suggested and it copied explorer from the Win98 disk. It still comes up with error message at bootup. Also any time I execute a comand in netscape I get an error message that it performed an illegal action. My MS outlook still will not let me receive or send email. Do I still Have some sort of virus?
Thanks NCOW |

Ok.. do you get explorer errors now or other errors?
Can you upload your C:\Windows\explorer.exe to next site and let it scan?: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ Normally it must be clean, assuming you replaced it in the right way. As long as your explorer is infected or was infected, new malware gets installed again and again.. so Im pretty sure your system is still full of it. Bube causes a lot of damage to your system. In your first post, I read you reinstalled windows... So I assume it was a repairinstall?? Does your explorer actually load? Can you browse using explorer? Can you also tell me what exact error you get? |

scan was clean
went to site suggested and scanned explorer.exe and it was clean. The erroe message I keep getting: Explorer.....this program has performed an illegel operation and will be shut down.....If this problem persist, contact program vendor.....
When I reinstalled windows as I stated in my first post it was as if I put windows in for the firt time. I am not familiar with the repairinstall. Explorer did load. I can browse with explorer. When I do browse every time I click on somthing I get that error message. I can't access explorer by right clicking on the start button. I can access it by right clicking on my computer. I have AVG virus program installed and it finds no viruses on bootup. Thanks NCOW |

Also, when you do a repair installation, you will need to reinstall all the Windows Critical Updates and Services Packs again.
