no cursor, always starts in safe mode, and now asks for password

So when I tried to start my computer, there was no cursor. Not just that it wouldn't move, but that there was none at all. I can still get into a couple things with my (poor) memory of keyboard controls, but not a heck of a lot.

Also, for some inexplicable reason, it's always starting in safe mode.

Thirdly: it gives me this dialogue box about wanting me to put in a password, but it lets me bypass this by hitting escape.

My paranoid mom is just CONVINCED this is a virus, but I don't think so, as I've not downloaded anything today, I'm not the type that downloads willy nilly anyway, my browser is firefox which I think does a pretty good job at blocking random things, and lastly I have a pretty good antivirus. Though I can't exactly get into it to get a scan, as I don't know how to do that without a cursor.

Does anyone have any advice?

Have you tried system restore? When you get to the desktop hit the Windows flag key on the keyboard then use the arrow keys on the right side of your keyboard to get to restore in the start menu.

Doesn't that delete everything you have off your harddrive?

And by the way, I got confused, I wasn't in safe mode, I only thought so because in safe mode, I have different display properties (color settings and resolution), and those were up, but it wasn't really in safe mode.

In actual safe mode, I can use my cursor. And I started my anti virus, and it does look as if I have some trojans after all, so maybe that's it. I'll check in if deleting those doesn't help.

No system restore backs your computer up to a prior date before you had this problem. You may have to reinstall any program you have loaded since then, but all data will be there.

If you can get to this option in safe mode it may fix your problem. Some viruses will still be there after restoring. If that is the case, try posting your hijack this log to the HJT forum here and they will get you cleaned up.
