OLEAUT32.dll error
I am getting a notice "Oleaut.dll has caused a problem in explorer - explorer will now close"
When trying to extract the file from my installation disc using the system file checker I am told that I can't while Windows is open. Does anyone know of this issue and how to install a driver in DOS? With much appreciation, Collin |

You can download oleaut32.dll. The file is compressed so you need an unzip software in order to use the file.
oleaut32.dll The normal location of this file is C:\windows\system32\

Oleaut32.dll
Yes, I've done that. I have the file. I guess I did not make myself clear. This file cannot be added to C:\Windows\System while Windows is open (being used).Try it for yourself. There is always an error message saying this. It cannot be overwritten, deleted, or messed with at all while Windows is open. My question was "how do I install the file while in DOS?"
By the way, I believe the normal location is C:\Windows\System. Peace Last edited by Cgfennell; 05-04-2005 at 02:38 PM. |

first unzip in windows and put in a folder you will know. boot to dos. then type cd c:\windows\system32\ and hit enter the dos prompt shoul say c:\windows\system32\> then write copy "where you put the file like c:\...." then c:\windows\system32\ hit enter then type in dir /p and check to see if it is in there.
if that does work try the same thing but like this first unzip in windows and put in a folder you will know. boot to dos. then type cd c:\windows\system32 and hit enter the dos prompt shoul say c:\windows\system32> then write copy "where you put the file like c:\...." then c:\windows\system32 |

Just to clarify that (in case you have many hard drives, the previous commands could get your system confused), assuming you have put the file into a directory on your C: drive called 'File', the commands you need are (typed commands are in bold):
c: cd\file copy oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system You will probably need to confirm the overwrite by pressing y at this point cd\windows\system dir oleaut32.dll If it comes up with the file on screen, it has been done successfully. OR, if you are taking the downloaded file from another computer on a floppy disc, the commands will be a: copy oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system again, you may need to confirm the copy with y c: cd\windows\system dir oleaut32.dll
