Grin **ZoneAlarm-Delete Old Updates??** :)

Greetings, Newbie Poster here

I'm hoping that someone can help me out with a silly question??
I've had the Free Version of ZoneAlarm for a long time now, and was just wondering if it's safe to delete all of the old 'Setup.exe' & 'Update.exe' that I've noticed on my computer??
(I'm guessing that I'd have to keep the original Setup.exe and the newest Update.exe of course, but was hoping I could delete all of those others?? They sure seem to take up lots of room! )

Any help is much appreciated

ThanX,
Agent Extremis

Hello and Welcome to TSF

I don't think it would do harm to remove the old Setup.exe and updates. They are just executable files that are already installed on your system.

I seriuosly don't think they are hogging up much space but if you feel you need some extra space cleared out it should be fine to delete them.

Hey TJ,
ThanX for the welcome & ThanX for replying

Here's the scoop as I can figure it:
My ZoneAlarm has it's initial 'Setup.exe' when I first set it up years ago, and since that, every so often there are updates that need to be done, and everytime that I do an update, then a new 'Setup.exe' or 'Update.exe' appears on my computer and then I double-click on it to activate the update.

Needless to say, I now have a whole bunch of those old
ones littering up my C-Drive
(I clicked on the properties of a couple of the old ones
and they show this: 5.55 MB, 5.51 MB, 5.4 MB, etc.... so
those are just little then?? )

I was apprehensive about deleting them as when I attempted
to get rid of one, this message appears:
"The file zlsSetup_45_538_001.exe is a program. If you remove
it, you will no longer be able to run this program or edit some
documents. Are you sure you want to move it to the Recycle Bin?"

Hence my concern......

Do you know how can I distinguish which 'Setup.exe' was the very first one that I most-likely would need to keep?? As well
as keep the newest update too
(so with every update I'm not sure what happens??...does each update override the previous info??)

I'm not computer-savvy whatsoever, so I'm always very hesitant when deleting anything, hence my silly questions (The only reason I'm even contemplating this is becuz my C-Drive is too full,so I've got to start clearing the junk off )

Any other items you can think of that I can delete to make
some space??
(Temporary Internet Files are cleared )

ThanX again for your time & your help

That is a normal message given from the O.S. as sorta a safety warning to make sure you do actually want to remove it. Removing will not make that program not work properly. Its just an exe file. That is just the file to install it on your system.

All you need to do to distinguish which 'Setup.exe' was the very first one that you most-likely would need to keep is just view the properties.
zlsSetup_45_538_001.exe tells you what it is and which version is it. I have 5 exe on my system and the first one is 5.1.033.000 and the last one is 5.5.094.000 notice the difference in the numbers.

My System

To answer your last question about deleting other files to make space, run Disk Cleanup. If you can't find its shortcut in Start>Programs>System, go to Start>Run and type C:\WINDOWS\CLEANMGR.EXE

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! ( Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install/run it.
