Hardware Interrupt Conflicts

My laptop has a hardware interrupt conflict and my troubleshooter appears not to be working on that computer. How do I determine how to fix it?

Could you post some information for us about your laptop? Make/model? What hardware is indicated to have conflicts?

I expect you're seeing a message during windows boot that reads something about "one or more drives is using MS-DOS compatibility mode" and "click here for more information". Which isn't very informative at all BTW. And you don't know there's a problem until windows starts to load, right? Nothing indicated in the bios? Any recent hardware changes?. If i'm on target, and no hardware changes, I'd try removing one of the listed controllers from the device manager, and reboot. Windows should re-configure the hardware at startup, thereby resolving the issue.

Arrow Hardware Interrupt Conflicts

When I go into Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation mark on the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI BUS MASTER IDE CONTROLLER. Then when I go into properties a message in the Device Status Box says 'This device is causing a resource conflict (code 15).

It also tells me that to resolve it use 'Hardware Troubleshooter.' I tried this but my system hangs with program not responding.

If you'll right click the offending device, you'll have some choices, one of which is "remove device".
