Can't Get to My Desktop

When I turned on my computer I got the Me logo, then saw the Scandisk window, saying improper shutdown. It would not finish the scandisk program, so I clicked Cancel. Network password login screen appeared. I clicked OK, heard the chime as if the desktop will appear and there was a very brief flicker of the bar at the bottom of the desktop, but then all I got was a blue screen. I hit cntrl-alt-del and got the Close Program window, showing Winmgmt, Devldr16, and Dkservice programs. I then shut down the computer.

Subsequent attempts have resulted in the same thing (except it doesn't go into scan disk). I end up with full blue screen.

Tried booting in Safe Mode, but I as the gray screen comes on, I again see a flicker of the bottom bar, the just get a gray screen with Safe mode wording at top right and left on screen.

I can not think of anything I changed to cause this. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try booting back into Safe Mode. This time choose Last known good configuration.

Geekgirl, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how to choose last known configuration. When I get the Me Startup Menu, my chioces are:
1. Normal
2. Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT)
3. Safe Mode
4. Step-by-step confirmation.

When I select Safe Mode I get the gray screen.

My bad

Sorry about that, trying to keep multiple O.S. features straight gets alittle confusing sometimes.

Lets try running the Windows Registry Checker tool.

Restart your computer with the Startup disk in your floppy drive, and then choose the Minimal boot option.
Type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER.
