What are the latest versions of DirectX and Window Media Player supported by WIN98?

Can WIN98 use the latest version of DirectX? If not, up to which version is supported and can older versions still be downloaded?

On a slightly different subject. I downloaded the DIVX Player to use under WIN98, for playing back DVDs. However it won't playback some files as they are not MPEG4. The file I am having problems with has a VOB extension, which I think is MPEG2. Do I need a codec to play these or another media player. Up to which version of Windows Media Player can WIN98 use?

PS I realise WIN98 is a bit long in the tooth, but its an old laptop and it probably would not run anything newer.

Thanks

Derek

Thanks for those links.

I have tried a few of the media players but still can't get any DVDs playing.

My setup is as follows:

Tecra 780DVD laptop 266 Mhz, 192MB, WIN 98.

All the players I have tried so far throw up an error message, that I am using an unsupported file format. I can play these files on my desktop with XP.

Players tried DIVX 2.6, WMP 7, Toshiba DVD Player, Zoom player.
