PC Lock UP

Can anyone help please?
I am trying to install Win98se on a e-star machine with an GA-6vtx motherboard, 256 ram, 30 GB HDD one CDRW and one DVD player. I ran out of ideas of what to do with it. the installation is complete but when windows starts for the first time and looks for drivers, in this case monitor it locks. every time on the same spot. I tried to install XP sp pack 2 and every time after copying files and reboots it goes back to the same thing, copying files again. I tried another HDD and same thing happened. I tried to install win98 on the same HDD on another PC and it worked fine. Please help me fix it so I can get some sleep, it's too frustrating to just leave it without fixing it.
Thanks

Have you tried a different monitor? If you have, does it black out too?

Whats the setup on the other machine that it does work on?

PC Lock up

Geekgirl,
I tried different monitors but I dont think that is the problem.
The PC has a AGP video card. There is no video outlet from the motherboard. It has a gigabyte motherboard.
I don't know what it is. It's very odd.
Thank you

Have you tried a different video card?

So you installed 98 and then tried XP which O.S. is on the h.d.d now?

PC Lock Up

Here is what I did. I tried installing XP and it wouldn't go through. It would keep repeating the copying files. and never go the installation process. Then I installed Win98 it went through everything, but it locked up when I got to the desktop. Then somehow after a few days it didn't turn on at all because I was swaping things in and out. Then I reset everything even the processor and it booted up and I reinstalled win98. The first time everything went fine until it got to the Network card driver recognition where it locked. After rebooting it went through the network card installation and got stuck with the monitor recognition screen. I have no Idea what it is. I did try a diferent video card but it didn't help. I tried a different monitor and it didn't help. I tried another HDD it didn'd help. I ran out of ideas.
Thank you

Take the network card out and try booting, they can be buggers sometimes. Try a different network card you may be having drivers conflicts/issues

Another Possible cause for lockups when loading PNP operating systems is the BIOS "PNP OS" is set to no which may cause issues with IRQ's

The Plug and play OS setting is in the setup usually under a setting "PNP/PCI" under the AMI and AWARD BIOS.
