trouble installing 3 port fire wire

hey guys : i have been trying to install a belkin 3 port fire wire on my wm me. i do have an extra pc slot however when i put the card in and reboot the install new hardware program starts and just hangs up, does nothing. do i need to check out something CMOS or what ? thanks a lot

What other pci cards are installed? Also, how old is the system?

i have a linksys fast ethernet adpt. and a sound blaster by creative in the other one !
