.dll problems

This information may be irrelevant but thought I'd better give the history. I have been trying to run an academy programme and was getting a runtime error turning up as msvbm60.dll error. greyknight17 gave me two other other versions and a link to install a new .dll. The installation doesn't work as the .dll is in use. And the same runtime error appears with the other two programmes. I compared the properties and attributes of my system .dll and the two new ones. My old one has no attributes ticked, the new ones have archive ticked.
Doing a search for these .dlls can't find them anymore (they did at first - 1 in system and 2 in my docs), although I can obviously navigate to them.

Browsing around I decided to run sfc which gave me 8 'may be corrupted' files
setupx.dll
msign.dll
mscat32.dll
cryptui.dll
mssip32.dll
cryptext.dll
cryptnet.dll
msoss.dll
But msvbm60.dll didn't appear.

I tried to follow instructions and install from Windows 98 cd but it couldn't find the files.

I'm now stumped and would appreciate any help, although these problems don't seem to be causing me trouble and I have downloaded the programme onto another pc and that works fine. I'm also not very OS knowledgeable (but learning all the time) but manage to follow clear instructions OK.

I would just do a repair install from your 98 CD. That will find whatever is missing and replace it.

Thank you for reply. That was what I tried and it didn't work. Same message each time - file not found. I did try to find them on the CD but the search function just isn't interested. I also tried to navigate to them on the CD but got bogged down in all the different folders. As I said, it's not causing me any trouble at the moment but I did want to find out why - I don't like being beaten!

My System

Possible corrupted data on the CD? Have you tried finding a friend who has a copy and using their CD?

Thanks for that. No I haven't tried yet, but what I can do and should have thought of before is testing the CD on the other Windows 98 pc. Dumb bird.

There is really no good way to protect yourself from that. You always find out the hard way, then figure out someway around it.

It's technoinevitability.

I wonder if you can simply delete the files and replace them with the new d/l file
setupx.dll
msign.dll I could not find
mscat32.dll
cryptui.dll
mssip32.dll
cryptext.dll
cryptnet.dll
msoss.dll
msvbm60.dll Not sure what to do with this one.

This is my 2cents hope it all works out o.k.

After doing some searching around I was led to this file for your msvbm60.dll problem. I'm not sure how the two things relate I'm just sharing the information hoping it all works out for you.
I found that file from this massage.

Thank you for your efforts, but no, it hasn't worked. However, 2 things now - there may be a problem with the programme itself as continual deletion of a particular file enables it to run. Also I checked our other 98 pc and repaired one .dll but it still doesn't work. I'm now going to try and borrow a 98SE CD to try and repair them as I think mine must be damaged.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.
