I don't understand

I'm a little confused on why windows ME is so unstable I believe and trust you guys your like computer genuises. But I've run Windows 9.x series for a long time, and I've always liked it over the NT series. I just enjoy this OS but I don't understand why everyone says its so unstable It boots up faster than Nt4 and windows 2000, it is also less picky when there is a problem with my laptop couldnt get XP on it, it would freeze at setup is inspecting system configuration and it would freeze, so I said forget it and reinstalled me from my blank HD so would the techs please tell me why this OS get hammered with bad reviews.

I used Win98 for 2 years and I can say that [almost] all the bad things about 98 are true, the same goes for many people I know. I haven't used WinMe, I know it has some improvements that make it more stable but to me it's like Win98 on steroids and IMHO you can't compare it with some decent and real 32 bits OS like Windows 2000

My System

Basically, in my experience ME is less stable than 9x in the sense that it will crash more often, and is less compatible with various hardware/software products than the 9x series. It seems to be a bridge between the 9x and nt systems which was badly pulled off.

If you can't run XP, either choose an NT system or a 9x system (probably 98 SE would be best) as they will quite simply give you less blue screens.

I had a laptop which had almost every microsoft operating system installed on it at one point or another. The overview was that ME was by far the least useful and stable operating system. XP was probably the best in terms of pure stability, but couldn't run a few older progs (mostly games) and 98 SE was best in terms of pure software compatibility.

You may just be lucky in the fact that you don't have any problematic hard/software. Many people have run ME for years and had no problems whatsoever. But the fact still remains that of all of the OSes that microsoft have released, ME has been the most problematic (apart from 95 ver.A of course... I believe it actually got recalled?)

If it works for you, stick with it. If you develop a problem, come back here and we'll try to fix it, but it may just be caused by ME..... not solved by it.

OS: XP PRO

I ran Me for awhile. It's a wonder how I still have hair on my head. I remember I couldn't go a half a day without some sort of error. Windows 2000 and XP hardly ever gives me errors. I never worked with windows 98 on my own computers but what I've seen from it using other peoples I like it better than ME. My choice of os in order are XP, 2000pro, 98se, ME, then 95.

I had a Compaq 5010 with ME. It would make one suspect that blue screen was a part of normal operation. Also seemed like there wasn't any hardware I didn't have some driver issue with. The term "driver signing" comes to mind.
