Can't access my desktop! HELP!!

Can't get to my desktop. Help!

My Windows Me computer was working fine. I got a Nikon Coolpix digital camera and downloaded the software. When prompted to restart the computer, I did so - but my desktop never came up. The Compaq logo came up on screen first (as usual) then the Windows Milennium screen came up (as usual) and the computer gurgled as usual...but no desktop appeared.
I waited about 5 minutes ...the computer kept gurgling the entire time- but, no desktop appeared. No cursor. Nothing.

I got my floppy start-up disk and tried that. It told me to open in Safe mode. When I tried that, I got a message..."keyboard error" So, I couldn't open in safe mode.

I did manage,(with the start-up disk) to activate the scandisk. scandisk/all/surface. That went fine (took over an hour) There were no corrupt files. But the problem remains.

Why would installing camera software from a reputable (Nikon) company cause this to happen?

I'd appreciate any help you can send my way to get to my desktop.
(I'm currently using another computer.)

I actually had problems withthe coolpix software, as well. This was a log time ago, though.

I would recommend that you uninstall the coolpix software, usinf add/remove, then see how your computer is behaving.

Check the coolpix instructions to see if anything might be needed for ME.

Let us know after you have done these two things, and the results.

My System

To get to that add/remove you'll need to actually get into the OS first though.....

When booting press F8 repeatedly until a menu comes up - choose Safe Mode and try to get into windows that way. Safe mode loads an absolute minimum of system files so you should hopefully be able to bypass the error and remove the software this way.

It's possible that something in your system is not comaptible with the Coolpix software.
