Step-by-Step Confirmation of boot
I notice that one of the start options in W98 (along with Option 3 for Fail Safe) is Option 4 (Step-by-Step Confirmation).
I wonder if this mode might provide useful information in tracking down my “lexpps” problem (system frequently freezes up and, often, can be unfrozen by manually closing lexpps several times). Can anyone tell me how I can learn more about using this Mode 4 option? Thanks. … wdc |

To manually restart to the Startup menu, follow these steps:
1. Click Start. 2. Click Shutdown. 3. Check Restart, and click OK. Windows will shut down. 4. When the computer begins to restart, hold down the Ctrl key. When the computer beeps, the Windows Startup menu will appear. there are seven different boot options with windows 98 as follows: an example of a boot screen Quote:
The Windows drivers you need to load depend on what you are troubleshooting. For example, if you are trying to resolve a problem that you believe involves the Symantec event handler (Symevnt), then you would click "No" to the prompt for Symevnt.386. which is the driver for the Symevnt seeing as how you have issues with lexpps try loading the driver for that. you will need to know where the drivers are located. |
