Gateway laptop won't boot
Help!! I would appreciate any suggestions as to what to try. When I turn on my computer I get a DOS screen (after the Gateway logo ) that reads:
Microsoft Windows Millenium Startup Menu 1. Normal 2. Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT) 3. Safe mode 4. Step-by-step confirmation Enter a choice: Warning: Windows has detected a registry/configuration error. Use SCANREG to correct this error. If I go to safe mode, it just sits there and does nothing. |

If you have your Windows ME cd, boot to it, and do a repair installation. Basically, follow the prompts, installing to the same location the current install is at (usually c:\windows). This should clear you problem ... enough to where you can get online and do some virus/spyware scans.
Also, this type of install will not destroy your data, and your programs should still work.

Sorry holquisc hasn't fully learned the uses of the forum. I private messaged her and got the problem solved. She was using the wrong Windows ME CD (3 different types, one for Hardware, one for the OS itself, and 3 for backup). Everything is working now as it should now.
