Lexmark z615 printer problems!!!!!!!!!

Lexmark z615 printer will not work with my usb ports. USB ports work fine with my digital cameras. I purchased new USB 2 cable. I talked to Lexmark tech support and they said to update my USB driver so I did that and still does not work. USB is 82371AB/EB. Software for printer is installed on my computer. When I go to "start menu" then "settings" then "printers" then right click "z600 printer" icon and go to "properties" then goto "details" I cannot select a USB port to print to because there isn't one in the list of ports. If I goto "add port" then select "other" and high light "usbmon" and then click "ok" the computer does nothing. Is usbmon the right thing to do? If it is it does not work. Heeeeelllllpp!!!

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Lexmark printers are kinda tricky to install.
First go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the software. Go to C:\Programs Files and delete the Lexmark folder.

To install do the following:

1. Go to Start, Settings, Printers.
2. Double-click on Add Printer and then click Next.
3. Select Local Printer and click Next.
4. Click the Have Disk button.
5. When the Install From Disk screen appears, click Browse.
6. From the Drives: section, select the CD-Rom drive (for example, D:).
7. Below File Name:, look for lxbcusb.inf, select this file, and click OK.
8. Click OK in the next screen.
9. When the name Lexmark Z615 Series is displayed, click Next.
10. Select the Port (Usb00x Virtual Printer Port if the printer has already been connected) and click Next.
Note: If no USB port is available, select the LPT1 port. You can change the port in the Printer Properties when the installation is complete.
11. Leave the name as Lexmark Z615 Series and indicate whether you want the printer to be the Default or not.
12. Click Finish. The printer files will then start to copy from the CD.
13. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the printer.

Thanks geekgirl, but still no luck...Your step #10 - select a port - They do not offer me a usb option so even when I select LPT1 port and then goto printer properties I still cannot select a usb port. I tried to add a port in printer properties and am given the option "usbmon" so when I highlight this and then select "OK" nothing at all happens.........I've even tried to waiting over 30 minutes.....still nothing. does it make a difference that I am running windows 98 SE or is this the same as windows 98???

No it shouldn't make a difference if it's 98 or 98se........

Does the printer work on another machine? I suppose this would be a way to rule the printer out all together. You say your usb port works and you purchased a new usb cable, I would try my suggestion above.

geek girl....I tried your suggestion again and still nothing. I tried the printer on my friends machine and it works great. The problem I keep running into is there is no option to use a usb port.

I apologize you got me stumped on this one. We know the usb port works, the printer works I can't see why you are running into these problems.
Have you ever had this printer working on your machine in the past or is this your first attempt?
