My D: Drive is Gone, Can somone help me get it back?
Hi,
I have no D: Drive on my computer. I think I accidently deleted it a long time ago when I was cleaning stuff up. I cannot load my HP PSC disk to load all of the stuff onto my computer now. Can someone help me get a new D: Drive? Or show me how to download one or get one? I am on Windows 98. Thanks |

Its been a while since i had a Windows 98 control panel in front of me...
But - go to the Device Manager and check CD Rom drives - see if there is a device like that - possibly with a yellow "!" in front of it.

Hello mariag and Welcome to TFS
It's pretty tough to delete the D:\ drive When your computers boots up, you know after you press the power button in, do you see the little light on the cdrom ( the thing you put the disc into) on the front of the computer flash on and off before the operating system loads up?

Re:
Sarkast:
There is no D: there, there are a Primary IDE controller and a Secondary IDE controller and a Standard Floppy Disk Controller with yellow !'s in front of it, but no D:\ drive. :( Geekgirl: No, the light does not come on. :( I had some trouble with my computer a while back and I think I accidently deleted it somehow when my computer was going crazy. :( Do you guys know how to get it back? |

I think your cdrom (D:\ drive) may have gone bad on you. Change the IDE cable and make sure the power cable is tightly fitted. If that don't help try a known working cdrom.
As for the yellow !'s in front of the floppy it sounds like you got more issues than you think. It is impossible to delete the D:\ drive, the Operating System by default will not allow you. The only way to "delete" the drive is to physically take it out and/or disconnect the power to it. I'm serisoulsy thinking it has quit working for you. Good luck

Re:
If it has quit working for me, how do I get it to work again, or do I have to buy something to get it to work, or how can I get a working one? I don't know much about computers, as you can probably tell.
How do I change the IDE cable ? Will that help? When I click on the open button for the CD Rom, that light does come on. Under the light it says "busy", the cd goes in and the thing makes noise, like it is running, but it does not start automatically. So I go into Run and I type D:/ and it says that "this system cannot find the device specified" ? I am lost! Last edited by mariag; 03-09-2005 at 03:01 PM. Reason: adding info |

If those controllers are having issues then your drives that connect to those controllers are going to have issues. Normally the hard drive connects to the Primary IDE controller, the cdrom connects to the Secondary IDE controller, and the floppy of course connects to the Standard Floppy Disk Controller. How pc savy are you?

Re
Well, I can do stuff on a computer if someone tells me how to. But, as far as actually going to the monitor and changing wires and stuff, I have no clue. But as long as someone tells me what to do, I could do it. I bought a scanner, HP psc 1210, and I am wanting to load the cd to install it. That is why I need this. I have to do a picture as soon as possible, so I really need this. THANKS!!!

It doesn't matter which way you type it in the D:\ drive will open, I tried it
I really can't instruct you to do anything without any drives. I was going to have you install your motheboard drivers but you can't use your drive. Does your floppy drive work? Can you boot from a boot disc? Do you have a restore disc?
