Re: dell optiplex gx240 win2000 with only 16 colors
VEN_1002 suggests ATI
DEV_5446 suggests Rage 128, Rage 128 Ultra, or Rage 128 Pro Try the first one here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...legacy-2k.aspx The Dell page http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid= suggests it's a Rage 128 Ultra. Unfortunately they only have the driver for XP. But you could try it. Some drivers work with both OSes (OEM manufacturers don't like to list all compatible OSes, because sometimes they just don't want to support the other OS - I know that's true for HP). P.S: This is the Windows 98 board |

Re: dell optiplex gx240 win2000 with only 16 colors
Hi all
On the same support page that blah789 linked you to over at Dell.com, if you select the down arrow on the open box in which you see Windows XP listed, you can then choose Windows 2000. There are two Win2000 Rage 128 drivers from Dell for your model, one for the 16mb model and one for the 32mb model. If you have tried them already, make sure to uninstall any previous attempts completely. Then try the one that best matches your current card. If you try two different drivers, make sure to uninstall the previous driver before trying the next. Best of luck, . . . Gary P.S. ... if the video continues to act up, even after an exact-match known-good driver is installed, you might want to run the Video Card Stability Test to see if the card is failing. If so, look around for an old compatible card to replace it. Cnet has a free download for the Video Card Stability Test --- http://download.cnet.com/Video-Card-...-10418474.html
