Windows 98SE and USB
Hey Guys,
I am creating an image for a computer lab at a school that I work at. We recently received a lab full of Dell Optiplex sx280's. These machines come with a small chassis with only USB ports and no ps2 ports. Here's the catch, this lab is licensed for 98 right now and we will be upgrading to XP after the summer. I have sent down my 98 image to the machine, made on a machine with ps2 ports. Upon start up, windows starts its add remove hardware process and installs everything. The mouse and keyboard work fine until it tries to install the USB ports that the keyboard and mouse are using. Upon doing this, the keyboard and mouse are then disabled and I am left at a screen advising me to either press enter to install drivers or click next to continue. See my dilema? I restart the machine and it goes right to the windows cannot find a mouse...click next to continue. Any ideas? I should also mention that both usb keyboard and mouse work fine in safe mode... Thanks, Tony

Did you enable legacy USB mode in the BIOS? I don't know if that will do the trick, I suspect that USB keyboards and W98 didn't see much mileage before events passed W98 by.
