My System

Just installed Win98 SE after taking out 95...

I didn't upgrade or anything, but it seems to be functioning all right. Except for a couple big things.

I mainly use my computer (in my room) as a stereo and seeing videos, but my computer has no sound. All the speakers and plugs seem to be in the correct places but no sound. I think this is software, because I can't even access the volume control, it doesn't open.

Also, my computer is stuck at 16 Color and the lowest resolution, so videos are made of blue and white dots at a frame a second.

I bet this isn't the first someone asked about this, but I couldn't find a thread dealing with these problems. Is there a place somewhere online that I can put these things on a floppy and sort of update these, or is it all on the install disc, but the computer never got around to it? Also, I would like to upgrade my WMP, which is the old B&W lookin one to the newer one on my WinXP, so I'm looking for how to do that myself online. Or maybe I'll just switch to winamp to play my music better.

My System

ok, I learned that I have to reinstall my drives (video, sound, chipset, whatever) and have to update my sound and video drivers off of the internet. I looked in a few places how dto do these but I can't get clear instruction without there being something else involved in it and didn't get help. Also, the computer isn't offline so I will have to transfer things from this one to the one in my room.

Hi,
Yes, you will have to update all drivers, also, as far as 16 bit--did you go to Microsoft and get all updates there also? There's a nifty program call Belarc Advisor(free) that will list info about drivers, hardware, their manufacturers, etc so you know where to go for any specific updates.
