1)using edit command i open command.com file after closing command.com file.when i restarted system displays the following msg "searching for boot record from IDE..0 OK type the command interpretner for e.g.c:>windows\command.com" i.e why it is happen

Hi,
Edit is primarily a TEXT (.TXT) editor. It will work with other extensions but do not use it for COM, EXE or similar files unless you know what you are doing. The system lost Command.com and is asking you to tell it where it is. 'c:\' will tell it that Command.com is in the root folder (directory) of the boot drive (C:). Good Luck, Jim |

Like previous poster said, EDIT is a TEXT editor. If you changed a binary file in any way, it's highly likely the binary data won't be correctly rewritten. If you corrupted your command.com, boot from a floppy (with the correct version of DOS or Windows), and type
