Programs running in background
Hey guys was just wondering what Programs Windows Me actually needs running in the background? I checked in msconfig under startup there was quite a few running in the background. My resources at startup are around 62%. Any help will be appreciated.

The first thing I'd do if I were you is run ad-aware se and spybot 1.3. After that make sure the things like quicktime, windows media, and real player don't start-up when windows starts. If you have real player and don't need it get rid of it. There are list of programs that can be shut down all over the net you just have to search for them. I found this one for Windows 98 but it should apply to ME as well. http://www.5starsupport.com/info/startup.htm This list is not that great there are better ones out there but it should get you started. Depending on the anti-virus program you are using, that can take up a lot of resources as well. I used ME a couple of years ago and had McCaffe running on it. It caused my computer to be terribly slow. Norton was a little better but I'd suggest either AVG or Avast. Both are free and effective. Both are also small program.

It is tough to tell you exactly what you need running in the background since everyone will have different necessary stuff running.
here is one of the best startup lists available |
