At system devices I see USB controllers and under that Intel host controller, USB card reader, and USB root hub. All say they are working properly, yet card reader, camera, jump drive, etc cannot be found at My Computer, Windows Explorer, or any "browse" list of programs such as acdsee. The problem may have been started by a cheap scanner without a power supply that gets it's power from USB, but it never gave an indication of causing a problem and is now disconnected anyway.--Help?--
Thanks Sak |

If you have blown the MB fuse for the USB ports, that would be the indication you'd get. The controller looks normal, but devices don't work.
Have you tried uninstalling all of the USB components and rebooting and letting Windows discover them again?

Sorry to say that it's not going to be quite that easy. The fuses are tiny surface mount devices, and require soldering and the correct tools to replace. I've replaced several, and I keep old MB's around to steal parts like this off, but it's not easy without the tools and experience.

USB fuse
After a lot of work I got to where the fuse should be. (shure was dirty in there - vacuumed it -.) I'm not sure I even recognized the fuse and it shure looks hard to solder in there. I put it back together for now until I'm sure that's it and I can find the fuse. But .... It's still doing the same thing, but USB printer is working and powered 4 port USB hub won't work. That hub acted kinda funny anyway. Like it was bucking the machine voltage instead of adding to it. When I plugged it in the computer would sometimes throw up.
I sure appreciate your help. Sak |

Hard to say what's going on in there, but I'd certainly try to use the USB without a hub, since they're frequently a source if issues.
