a fatal exception

i've been having these error messages for a year or so but just recently its gotten bad and i've had all different kinds but usually its something to do with kernel32.dll but also recently it started popping up a blue screen saying "a fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0167:BFF9DFFF. current application will be terminated". that message only applies to when i try to open winamp and the only thing ive done is upgrade morpheus.every other error occurs spontaniously.i have ran trendmicro, spybot, and adaware.i have windows 98 please help

Hi,
A good place to start would be the System File Checker feature. Click Start>Run and in the command line, type sfc. You'll need a Win98 install disc to repair/replace any corrupted or missing files. If you don't have an install disc, write down the problem file(s) and you can usually do a search online for them to download.

That may be a good idea, but before you submit an HJT log (in the Security section) do the following:

Make sure you have the latest HijackThis (version 1.99) . Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis. Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Also, If you have a fast internet connection (Broadband), run an online scan at Trend Micro or RAV Antivirus.
Please select the “autoclean” option when using Trend Micro. ( If you have Dial-up this Online scan could take up to an hour and a half if you have the time.)

Let's start there, if you still have a problem, post the HijackThis log in the Security Section to have it analyzed, let them know that all of the above has already been done.

Sorry, forgot about Spybot--if you don't already have it...
Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.
