su0350 error

hi,

im trying to fix a friends old win 98 pc, basicaly he's getting this error on the log in screen

message su0350
(in spanish) something to do about the installation program
code = 5001

after this i can only hit ok and the pc shut down

hi,

sorry forgot to say that this happened after he tried to install a 4gb usb drive, also i am unable to get in to safe mode as windows explorer keeps making errors and crashing.

ok done that worked fine i entered the code key again and windows loaded up but i'm getting an error massage about explorer making an illegal function ans will now close.

any ideas

hi,

the exact message is" the program has done a operation not allowed and will be interrupted" then something about contacting the system provider

i only have to options in the window that says "close" or "details" when i click close the greenish screen stays and i can see the mouse arrow but nothing else.

Try running a repair install....with WIN98 you just pop the cd in the optical drive when the system is booted and install overtop the existing install. Done it many times...

Can you boot into Safe Mode ok?
Also try running SFC....

hi
ok the win98 disk is in the drive but nothing is happening also i can not get in to safe mode for the same reason as before explorer is crashing.
also i have set the bios to run from cd and this also does not work.
any ideas
sorry but want is sfc

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.


In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows CD.

System sounds hosed...try this

Boot to a 98 boot disk, at the command prompt type in scanreg /restore
You'll be given a choice of dates. Select one and click Restore.
