All sorts of wierd issues!
Having a host of interesting problems with my computer recently. Something is changing files on boot up including my netdi.dll (used for my DSL modem) and now the DirectX files (Games requiring DX say it does not exist). I am also unable to run Ad-Aware (it gets stuck in the "loading definitions" phase) and Spybot is near to useless as it takes roughly 5 hours to do a full scan for some reason (major hangups around the CoolWebSearch detection). Needless to say it is gettting my kinda pissed off and I'm considering robbing a bank to get cash for a new computer.
Another interesting thing is that my C:\Window and C:\Windows\System folder each contain approx 16,000 items a piece with alot of them being 0Kb .dll files that 'm assuming are the results of some form of malware. That stuff makes running certain checker programs hard as they try and scan the whole damn folder and it takes hours upon hours. |

Instead of robbing a bank for a new PC - have you considered wiping your HDD clean and just reinstalling your OS to get rid of all these problems ?

I have indeed been thinking that formatting the damn thing would do the trick, but I'm trying quite hard to exhaust all options before doing that. I end up formatting at least 3 times a year and it ticks me off. (I'm the only computer literate person in a family of 5 so I always have to rush around to clean up all the screw-ups)

Figured I'd just post again instead of editing.
Some changes: I've managed to clean up alot of stuff on my own and now I'm almost close to being pleased with this system again. A remaining issue is that DirectX 9c is not reinstalling when I run the program, it downloads the components and seemingly installs them but no change is made/detected. Normally it asks you to restart to complete installation but now it just tells me that "the installed components are ready for use" That is now my main issue and any help would be greatly appreciated. |
